We caught up with Sian Murrary, Co-founder of Pleasant State, to learn more about the business, their impact and how the Fruit & Vege wash cleaning bars work. 

Great Wrap: Hey Sian, can you tell us about Pleasant State why you and Ami started the business?

Sian: Pleasant State is a female-founded, Australian cleaning brand that’s working to create a sparkling clean world free of toxic chemicals and single-use plastics while turning home care into joyful self-care!

In 2020 Ami was suffering from daily headaches and found out they were caused in part by indoor pollution that was linked to her  cleaning products and their plastic packaging.

The EPA ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health. This, combined with the plastic epidemic and the lack of well-designed cleaning solutions on the market, got us thinking: Surely there's a better way!?

Ami and I  were introduced at a cafe on the Sunshine Coast where Ami pitched her wild idea and in just weeks we were full steam ahead! We saw an opportunity to revolutionise the cleaning industry with effective, healthy, and sustainable solutions.

Great Wrap: It’s alarming to think that indoor pollution poses such a risk to public health! We’re so glad to have Pleasant State as an alternative to harsh chemical products. Could you explain how your refill model works?

Sian: Our refill model is simple, fill one of our beautiful custom glass & silicone bottles with warm water from your tap, drop in the concentrated cleaning bar, wait for it to dissolve and then you can get cleaning!

No more running to the supermarket when you need cleaning products or time-consuming refill & return schemes. Our customers order the bottle once and then refill it again and again with our concentrated cleaning bars. This solution reduces transport emissions by 95% because you’re not shipping around mostly water, saves space in your cupboards at home and even our bar wrappers are certified home compostable! Best of all we offer subscriptions so you will never run out of cleaning products again.

To start using your Fruit & Vege wash bar:

1. Find a 500ml spray bottle or jar. Be sure to give it a good clean first. 
2. Fill with 500ml of warm water.
3. Drop in the Fruit & Vege wash bar.
4. Wait for it to dissolve (1-2 hours)
5. And then you can get cleaning! You can spray directly onto produce, then rinse and dry. Or add 2 tbsp to a sink of cold water, add produce for 1 minute, then rinse and dry.
