Product

Great Wrap is made from potato waste and a mix of other compostable biopolymers - and it’s certified home compostable. Potato waste exists in abundance due to our love of potato chips. There are a lot of skins and potatoes that don't make the cut for chips, we are using these waste materials to produce a bioplastic and forming that into Great Wrap.

Other certified home compostable products on the market are made from PLA + PBAT. PLA usually requires intensive agriculture. That’s why we did the research to develop our patent-protected formula. We want to offer products that solve problems, not create them.

We are certified Home Compostable AS 5810 and certified Compostable AS 4736. That means Great Wrap has undergone a stringent test regime carried out by recognised independent accredited laboratories to the Australian standard.

Great Wrap is made in our Melbourne-based factories. We have two locations, one where we do a lot of our material trials and then we have our mega factory where we manufacture once the product has been properly tested. We currently have a team of 30 who work hard to manufacture this wrap locally here in Australia.

Great Wrap is microwave safe at low heat for short periods of time. Our wrap will melt at medium or high heat, so keep your eye on it.

It sure is! Our wrap only begins to break down when it’s in a compost environment - it needs the action from microbes and moisture for the composting process to start.

Absolutely, they love it! Our wrap breaks down by microbial action in the same way as food scraps do, leaving no toxic residues, and so it is safe for all compost types.

No, you cannot. Please leave that to the microbes in your compost. Although Great Wrap is made from food waste it is still a form of compostable plastic, it’s not designed to be ingested. The food waste composition is changed through the polymerisation process to perform like plastic so it acts much the same within human and animal digestive systems.

Great Mate

Around 373 million plastic water bottles end up as waste each year in Australia and of all the plastic bottles that are placed into recycling, only 36% of them are actually recycled.

The rest end up in landfills, spill into waterways and leak harmful chemicals into our environment as they decompose, which causes a number of environmental and health issues.

The Great Mate helps solve this problem by looking at other ways to use ocean-bound plastic and give it a more meaningful life rather than ending up in a landfill.

Never fear - our slide cutter button has a lifetime warranty! We're confident in our product quality and we want you to have your Great Mate for life. So, if the blade becomes blunt or is no longer functioning, we will send you a replacement free of charge, simply email us at hello@greatwrap and we will send one your way!

The Great Mate was designed and manufactured in Melbourne, AUS. We chose to manufacture locally so we could control all aspects of the design process to ensure the best quality.

When it is time to refill your Great Mate, you can buy Nudie Rolls on our website. You can order them in a pack or you can set yourself up for a Great Mate subscription, so you never run out again.

Business enquiries / Pallet Wrap

Absolutely! Our Great Wrap pallet wrap cores are made to industry standards. Meaning our machine wrap will fit on all of your manual and automatic stretch wrapping equipment.

Great Wrap performs like an ordinary stretch wrap. However, if you leave your pallet exposed to the elements (sunlight, moisture, and bacteria) over an extended period of time, say 4 - 6 months, you will start to see the wrap lose its stretch and stick. So when storing your pallet wrap it is recommended to keep it in a dry protected area.

Rain and water won’t affect the performance of Great Wrap. Our wrap will only begin to break down once microbes in your soil or compost start their process. Unless it's in the rain for months on end your wrapped goods will be a-ok!

Composting and End of Life Cycle

Our cling wrap is certified home compostable and it will break down in your home compost in under 180 days!

Once you’ve finished your roll of Great Wrap, you can place the box and the inner roll into the recycling bin.

We’ve been working on our new factory in Tullamarine, which means we’ll be able to manufacture pallet wrap, catering wrap and home cling wrap for you. Our new high-tech machine will enable us to produce large quantities for your business and home orders. If you’d like to chat with our Head of Business Development get in touch with Jaclyn at jaclyn@greatwrap.co. Oh, and we’re also expanding internationally this year!

If Great Wrap ends up in a landfill it will break down eventually, but it’ll take around 1 - 3 years. If Great Wrap sits on your shelf, it’ll last about 2 years. We obviously recommend composting our wrap as it is the best result for our environment and for repurposing (eg as nutrient soil).

It breaks down into nothing but carbon + water. It goes perfectly with all your other organic waste to be composted into rich, nutrient soil ready to be repurposed.

We recommend heading to compostconnect.org to find a compost collection service. There you can type in your postcode to find one that's closest to you.
